The Swedish Tank Museum – Showing the military vehicle development, as well as the military history of Sweden, from the early 20th century until today. The museum also includes a soldier’s croft dating back to the 17th century, where an accompanying exhibition tells you about a bygone era.

The museum is located 7 km from Strängnäs, along the motorway E20.

By car from road no 55

From the north: After the Strängnäs high bridge, follow signs for local road (blue sign) towards “Eskilstuna”.

From the south: At Biskopskvarn crossing – take the motorway E20 towards “Göteborg” (Gothenburg) and follow the directions below.

Exit #135 to “Härad” and in the T-crossing take right towards “Strängnäs”.

Train to Strängnäs, you can serch depature on https://www.sj.se/en/home.html#/ . Then bus no 220 or 820 to bus stop “Näsbyholm”, just outside the museum.

CAFÉ

Have a coffee break during your visit! Here you can by coffee, coffee bread or a sandwich. We also serve gluten, lactose free and vegetarian options.

Opening hours café:
The cafe closes 30 minutes before the museum.

THE MUSEUM SHOP

In our museum shop there is something for all ages. Here you can find a wide collection of different souvenirs, clothing and non-fiction books about vehicles and history. We also have building kits of vehicle models, toys and our popular collection of Cobi models.

 

About us

The museum was inaugurated June 17, 2011 and is open year round. Run by a private foundation – Foundation Södermanland Military History collections. The vehicles belong to the Swedish Government – the Swedish National Museums of Military History. The vehicles were previously located to the Tank Museum in Axvall and Military Vehicle Museum in Malmköping. The collection includes about 350 vehicles, of which about 75 are on display in the museum. Some parts of the exhibition changes each year.

Beside the museum there is an original soldiers croft from late 19th century with an accompanying exhibition, The Soldier and the Croft. An exhibition about the history of the local Regiment (Södermanland regiment) tell the story from 14thcentury until 2005 when the regiment was closed.

The museum has a friends organization – Södermanland Regimental Museum Association.

Accessibility

Parking
There is a big parking lot outside the museum with parking spots for the disabled located right at the museum entrance.

Passability
The museum is placed in a large hall with open areas and lift to the second floor, which makes it easier for visitors with disabilities and users of prams, wheelchairs or other aids, to move between floors and exhibitions. One exception is the Soldiers croft where there are two steps into the croft.

Wheelchair
There are two wheelchairs in the museum entrance available to loan.

Toilets and changing table
The museum have an accessible toilet with sitting aids suitable to visitors with wheelchairs, walking frames or other aids. A changing table is available on the same toilet.

Accompanying persons and guide-dogs
Accompanying persons or personal assistants with a valid certificate enters the museum free of charge. Guide-dogs are also allowed inside the museum.

Lockers
In the entrance there are lockers available to borrow. Ask for a key by the cash register.

Food
If you bring your own food to the museum, it must be eaten outdoors.
